Abstract

Burnout syndrome constitutes one of the main problems associated with occupational mental
health in the healthcare sector due to high emotional demands, workload, and organizational
pressure present in this environment. The objective of this research was to analyze the
relationship between psychosocial risk factors and burnout syndrome in healthcare workers.
A quantitative research study with a correlational scope and a non-experimental cross-sectional design was conducted. The sample consisted of 210 workers from healthcare
service institutions in Colombia. The results revealed significant correlations between
workload, organizational stress, institutional support, and emotional exhaustion. A strong
relationship was identified between work overload and emotional exhaustion (r = 0.81), as
well as a negative correlation between organizational support and burnout levels (r = -0.69).
Likewise, healthcare personnel with longer working hours showed higher levels of
depersonalization and psychological fatigue. It is concluded that psychosocial risk factors
significantly influence the development of burnout syndrome, highlighting the need to
strengthen institutional strategies for occupational well-being and mental health.
